Working with Victorian and Edwardian properties calls for that special touch of experience and, of course, the right products for the job.
We often have customers with old terraced properties with sash box windows in need of replacement. A common question is whether or not the frames have to be replaced with an entire new window or whether they can “get away” with just having the glass units replaced,
Some companies are able to replace the glass providing that the frames are in good order.
To ensure quality though it is our opinion that the whole window should be replaced with modern pvc-u replacement windows that have been styled to suit your property. This is also the only way to gain a full guarantee on the work and piece of mind for many years to come, not to mention warmth, security, style and added value for your home.
Our modern range of Sculptured UPVC windows in either Traditional Oak or Rosewood provide complete satisfaction and a window to look at as well as to look through.

When considering your new double-glazing, you might have noticed that many windows have one frame but are then made up of one or two smaller windows within. These smaller windows are usually the opening windows and the look and appeal of the product is called the “Sight Lines”.
Where the frames are fixed, the glass will be larger. This is known within the industry as unequal sight lines and is perfectly normal to see windows with unequal sizes of glass in them. Take a look around and you’ll see what I mean!
If you see older properties, you’ll notice that the windows often have equal size panes of glass within the frame providing an equal site line. This gives the feeling that all the windows within the frame are the same even though only some of them will actually open.
Our designers are fortunate in that we have a complete and very varied range of pvc-u replacement windows and double glazing options, making it very easy to find the perfect match for any home of any age or style throughout Leicestershire, the Midlands and Milton Keynes.
Often I’ve noticed that for older properties, our Wood Grain effect in Rosewood or Light Oak look superb. These are just a couple of the many exciting choices for your home.

You might be wondering what the difference is between laminated glass and ordinary glass? The truth is they both have the same strength. The difference is when it gets damaged as laminated consists of two pieces of glass constructed with a plastic inner layer which holds the glass together. Thus preventing intruders coming in through a hole or injury from pieces of stray glass.
What about Toughened Glass?
Well, this is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass and has to be hit much harder to break. Also, when it does break, it breaks into many tiny pieces which is far less dangerous.
What about fire resistant glass?
This glass is classified in terms of how well it stops flames and hot gases and is separated by 30 minute steps, ie, 30, 60, 90 and so on. Your own circumstances will dictate how much protection you need or require but fire resistant glass is really designed to buy you time and save lives.
If you are looking for replacement upvc windows and live within the Midlands, Leicester or Milton Keynes, our designers will be happy to answer any questions that you may have through this site.

We use Pilkington Glass for our products because of it’s reputation for quality within upvc, pvc-u replacement windows.
One of its most recent achievements is the Pilkington Activ self cleaning glass, especially good for upstairs windows and conservatory roofs where it can be difficult to clean. The glass comes with an exteria coating which loosens any dirt or grime, then when it rains, the dirt washes away leaving the glass looking clean.
For more information see: Pilkington Glass
If you’ve recently moved into your home and wondering how to tell if you already have safety glass fitted, see the stamp in the corner of the window which should provide details of the standard and manufacturer.
In our next posts, we’ll be looking at the difference between toughened glass and laminated glass along with details for fire resistant glass.

Sculptured UPVC Replacement windows offer much better insulation than conventional single glazed windows. The glass that is used to make the sealed units reflects heat back into the room. Also the replacement window frames are fitted for the ultimate seal against draughts. Replacement windows help to keep the heat in, so you can turn down the heating a degree or two and save on fuel bills in perfect comfort.

With around 9,000 independent window companies across the UK, standards of service and prices vary massively. All window companies will say that they provide a quality window but there are certainly varying degrees of quality.
Always ask as many people, friends and family for personal recommendations as you can. This is the best reference and carries far more weight that any form of advertising that you might see.
In future posts, I’ll list lots of questions for you to ask when thinking about replacing your windows.

To set the record straight, both are forms of safety glass. People often assume that toughened glass is some form of extra strong glass, however, ’shatter safely glass’ would be a better description of toughened glass as its difficult to break, but not impossible.
When it does break, it will break into very small sections but will not pose the danger created by large glass shards formed when ordinary float glass breaks.
Toughened glass is preferred for use in domestic replacement windows as laminated glass, when hit with force will crack, but is unlikely to smash. This makes it less desirable if you need to break the window to escape.
If security is a major consideration the strength of laminated glass is an advantage. Laminated glass is also thicker - usually 6+ mm - and as such will offer better insulation.
However, this also makes it heavier and it is also more expensive than toughened glass.
At Trustyle UK we belief we have the ideal balance between safety, style and quality with the combination of Sculptured VEKA frames and Pilkington K glass with over 90 percent of our customers across the Midlands, Leicestershire, Nottingham and Milton Keynes rating our service as either very good or excellent as per the Consumer Protection Association.

PVCU, UPVC, PVCu, and PVC-U all refer to the same product. These terms as talked about by most window companies who often use a combination of these when describing their Low Maintenance or Maintenance Free UPVC Products. As a general rule, the correct term is PVC-U.
